The Tianjin Binhai Library opened to the public in October 2017, and photos of it quickly went viral. It is remarkablefor its white interiordesign, with terracedbookshelves lining the walls from floor to ceiling. The center of the main atriumfeatures a large white spherethat glows in the evening. This large sphere is designed to resemble a human eye. Thus, the Tianjin Binhai Library has been nicknamed “The Eye.”
The futuristic library was designed by architects from the Dutch firm MVRDV and local architects of the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute(TUPDI). As part of the Binhai Cultural Center, the library has become amajor tourist attraction. Covering a space of 33,700 square meters, the library boasts numerous reading areas along with the capacity to hold around 1.2 million books.
This library is a five-level building with a great number of educational facilities. On the ground floor, people can enjoy the reading areas with their friends and family.
