Dadaocheng is a must-see destination for anyone traveling in Taipei. This historicneighborhood is located in Datong District, near the Tamsui River. It offers visitors a laid-back and traditional experience that they won’t find downtown.
Walking down Dihua Street in Dadaocheng is like stepping back in time. It has many old buildings from the 1800s that are nowhome toshops selling traditional crafts, herbs, teas, and dried fruits. You can also stop by the Dadaocheng Theater to watch some Chinese opera or a puppet show. Further down Dihua Street lies the Taipei Xiahai City God Temple. This temple was built in 1859 and is famous for housing hundreds of deities, including the City God, who watches overthe city and its residents. In recent years, the temple has become especially popular for matchmaking. Hopeful singles visit the temple to seek blessingsfrom Yue Lao, the Love God.
Of course, no trip to Dadaocheng would be complete without paying a visit to Dadaocheng Wharf. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic walk along the beautiful riverside, especially around sunset. At PIER5, you’ll find a food court with a unique charm. It features old shipping containers that have been decoratedand turned into restaurants and cafés. Many have dining areas on their top level that offer an amazing view of the river.
