can 的用法

1  表示能力，可譯為「能夠」、「會」

例句

Trevor can speak three languages.

= Trevor is able to speak three languages.

崔佛會說三種語言。

注意

can 表示能力時，可以用 be able to 取代，但用此取代時須注意下列事項：

1 主詞須為有行為能力之人或生物。

2 be able to 可搭配其他助動詞使用。

The CEO is very busy, so I’m not sure if he will be able to see you tomorrow.

執行長很忙，所以我不確定他明天是否可以見你。

2  表示許可，可譯為「可以」

例句

We can listen to music while working.（我們工作時可以聽音樂。）

Can I go home now?（我現在可以回家嗎？）

3  表示可能性，可譯為「有可能」

例句

It can’t be true! I don’t believe a word you say.

這不可能是真的！你說的話我一個字都不相信。
