一、動名詞是什麼？功能又是什麼？
動名詞（Ving）就是動詞變成的名詞。動名詞可以當作：

• 主詞：

 

Ving 當主詞，就是表示「一件事」，要視為單數喔！

 

但是如果有 2 個 Ving 當主詞的話，就表示 2 件事嘛，所以動詞就是複數型！

 

• 放在動詞之後，也表示某件事：

其實動名詞的用法和名詞幾乎相同，只要記得這一點，就不用特別背誦了喔！

 

二、這些動詞當受詞時，只能用 Ving 形式
這些動詞不能接不定詞（to V），只能接動名詞（Ving）喔！

admit 承認	advise 建議	allow 允許	anticipate 期望
appreciate 感激	avoid 避免	complete 完成	consider 考慮
risk 冒險	deny 否認	dislike 不喜歡,厭惡	dread 害怕
enjoy 喜歡	finish 完成	imagine 想像	mind 在乎
permit 允許	postpone 延期	practice 練習	propose 建議
quit 停止,戒掉	recommend 建議	suggest 建議	resent 痛恨

例句如下：

• I advise redoing the work. 我建議這工作重做一遍。

• The little bot dreads talking to his father. 這個小男孩害怕跟他父親說話。

• You should practice speaking English all the time. 你該時不時就練習說英文。

 

三、這些 Vt 的受詞可以是 Ving 或 to V，但是意思不一樣
有些及物動詞（Vt）後面可以接動名詞和不定詞，可是意思有些不同喔！

• mean Ving 意思是……

• mean to V 有意要……（＝intend to V）

 

• regret Ving 後悔曾……

• regret to V 抱歉要……

 

• remember Ving 記得曾經……

• remember to V 記得要……

 

• forget Ving 忘了曾……

• forget to V 忘了要……

發現了嗎？只要後面接 Ving 的時候，意思就是「曾經做過某事」、「已經做過某事」，可是如果接 to V 的話，表示「還沒做某事」、「將要做某事」喔！

 

四、還有哪些 Ving 慣用語呢？
以下介紹幾個常見的動名詞慣用語！

• There is no Ving 誰都無法…… ＝No one can V

 

• It is no use Ving 做……是無用的

 

• have trouble / difficulty / problems / a hard time (in) Ving 從事……很困難

 

• have fun / a good time / a great time / a wonderful time (in) Ving 從事……很愉快

 

• be busy Ving 忙著從事……＝be busy with N

 

• feel like Ving 想要……＝would like to V

解題重點：

1. consider 後方要接 Ving 或是 (to be) N。不能接不定詞 to V 喔！

2. mean Ving 意即／等於……。

3. 在 that 子句中，dealing with those inquisitive students（與那些好問的學生來往）是動名詞片語，當成主詞，所以空格內要填單數 be 動詞，也就是 is。

4. mind 後面應該要接 Ving，所以只剩下 (A)、(B) 可選，但是 let、allow 文法不同：let sb V 讓某人、allow sb to V 允許某人。這題空格後面有受詞 the manager 和原型動詞 know，所以要選 (A) letting。如果題目的 know 改成 to know 的話，就要選 (B) allowing 了。

5. 前面有提到的固定結構：It is no use Ving ……是無用的。
