The robot Sophia is probably the most well-known robot with a human face in the world. Created by Hanson Robotics, based in Hong Kong, Sophia gained the attention of the world when she was made an honorary citizen of Saudi Arabia in 2017. Now, as people all over the world struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sophia’s creator David Hanson hopes to market his invention to people dealing with the stress of social isolation.
In early 2021, Hanson Robotics announced their plans to mass-produce the Sophia model. At the time of the announcement, the company said there were 24 Sophia robots in existence. This year, however, they are ready to begin mass production and expect to produce a range of the robots that can be tailored to different specifications. The company expects that Sophia, which has been promoted as an AI-powered robot, will provide people with comfort and mental stimulation in the era of COVID-19.
For those with Apple products, the Siri voice assistant is a useful feature that helps people find information quickly. Now, users in Taiwan can look forward to a Siri that also speaks Taiwanese, also known as Southern Min. Apple and the office responsible for language localization options made the announcement in January 2021. It is expected that the Taiwanese-speaking digital assistant will make Apple products even more attractive among the older Taiwanese population.
To accomplish the task, they are seeking a highly motivated Taiwanese-speaking engineer to assist in designing the new program. However, there are a few more demands that applicants for the job will need to consider. In addition to software engineering skills and native-level Taiwanese, the successful applicant will also need to be able to communicate in an English-speaking work environment. Also, the office is located in Yokohama, Japan. So, knowing a bit of Japanese may also be a plus.
