The novel Frindle was written by American author Andrew Clements. Clements was born in New Jersey in 1949. His parents loved reading, so he developed an interest in this hobby as a child. During summers, Clements and his family lived in a cabin near a lake. He spenthis time there playing in nature during the daytimeand reading in the evening. Clements believed this helped him think like a writer.
At school, Clements’ English teacher praised a poem he wrote. This encouraged him to study literature in college. After graduation, he worked as an English teacher for many years. Clements later quit and moved to New York City to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. After failing in this, he decided to write a novel. His first novel, Frindle, was published in 1996 and received over 35 awards and nominations. This allowed Clements to become a full- timewriter.
