A novel that bravely stands up to an unjust world
It is rare for a debut novel to enjoy as much success as Bonnie Garmus' Lessons in Chemistry. The book was published in April 2022 and soon became an international bestseller. In the following year, it was adapted into a TV series with Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson in the lead role.
Lessons in Chemistry takes place in the 1960s. It tells the story of Elizabeth Zott, a female chemist trying to make her way in the academic world. She faces many challenges and is forced to leave her job when she becomes pregnant. Elizabeth, who thinks that cooking is very much like chemistry, eventually becomes the host of a cooking show. She uses this platform to inspire her audience. She does not just teach women how to cook; she also asks them to value themselves.
The best-selling novel was set to be adapted into a movie.
