        As the co-founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Ma is a globally recognized entrepreneur. Currently listed as one of the world’s most powerful people by various business magazines, Ma did not enjoy instant success. Born and raised in Hangzhou, China, Ma failed the Chinese college entrance exam three times before finally passing. That wasn’t his only struggle. In interviews, he has discussed being rejected from Harvard Business School a total of 10 times and getting turned down from all 30 jobs he applied for after college.

        In 1995, Ma’s luck changed when he and a friend created the website China Pages. Fouryears later, Ma and 18 partners launched Alibaba, a business-to-business marketplace site. Over the next two years, the company received US$50 million in foreign investments. Taobao went online in 2003 and turned the Alibaba Group into a billion-dollar company. Following his astonishing success, people all over the world have sought to find out the secret to his accomplishments.

        In his 2017 motivational speech titled “Don’t Let Others Limit You,” Ma offers some insight into what people should do to find their own success. As the name of the speech suggests, Ma advises individuals to pursue their own goals regardless of what others say. He says that the common link among some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs is that they are all optimistic. If you look at the world and can see how you can make things better for people, then you will always find opportunities. With this outlook and belief in your dream, Ma suggests that anyone can go out into the world and be happy and prosperous.
