1. but 可做準關係代名詞，用於下列句型中：
| There is no... | who...not... 沒有⋯⋯不⋯⋯ whom...not... = 凡⋯⋯必⋯⋯ which...not... |
=There is no...but...
a. 句中有 be 動詞時，保留該 be 動詞。
例: There is no one in the office who isn't sick of that lazybones.
= There is no one in the office but is sick of that lazybones.
（辦公室內無人不討厭那個懶傢伙。）b. 句中有一般助動詞（如 can、will、should 等）時，保留該助動詞。
例: There is nothing which David cannot do.
= There is nothing but David can do.
（大衛什麼都會做。）c. 句中有 do / does / did 時，do / does / did 予以刪除，再將原形動詞還原成應有的人稱或時態變化。
例: There is no one who doesn't love music.
= There is no one but loves music.
（無人不喜歡音樂。）
