First Black Woman to Join US Supreme Court
The US Senate recently confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first black woman to become a member of the Supreme Court. Out of the 115 justices who have served on the US Supreme Court, all of them except for three have been white, and only five have been women. Thus, the appointment of Jackson is a landmark moment in US history.
Before her nomination, Jackson spent many years working as a judge in the lower courts. At one point, she served as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, the man she is now going to replace. Based on her previous decisions, many expect her to judge in a more liberal manner.
