When it comes to precious works of art, things such as the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci or the sculptures of Michelangelo typically spring to mind. Not many people would think of an entire room as a work of art. Those who are familiar with the Amber Room, however, know better.
As the name suggests, it was a room with 55 square meters of wall space __1__ with approximately six tons of amber—fossilized tree resin from ancient forests. The room was further ornamented with mirrors, gold leaf, and gemstones. It was such a magnificent sight that it was once dubbed the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”
