BTS and Biden
K-pop sensation BTS recently met with US President Biden and gave remarks at the White House. On May 31, the seven-member boy group from South Korea had a meeting with President Biden to discuss violence towards Asian-Americans. Having won many awards at prestigious music shows, BTS is a global phenomenon, with songs that regularly top international music charts.
The purpose of their White House visit was to raise awareness about the recent spike in racism and violence directed at people of Asian descent. Since the start of COVID-19, there’s been a growing trend in violence towards Asians in the US. This came to a head in March 2021 when a mass shooting occurred at an Asian-owned spa in Atlanta, Georgia. BTS hopes to combat racism, xenophobia, and intolerance towards Asian communities.
