For some, this period of the year might mean a transition to cooler weather or indicate an explosion of colorful foliage on the trees. Regardless of where you are, there are many fascinating things about this particular season.
Is it fall or autumn?
The name of the season that generally includes the months of September, October, and November may be referred to as “fall” or “autumn.” Autumn is the term most commonly used around the world, while it is mainly Americans that call this time of year “fall.” This divide can be chalked up to the British. The older of the two words is “autumn.” The term “fall” started to be used when English poets depicted the time as “the fall of leaves,” and the word “fall” then became shorthand for the season. The term made its way to the American colonies, where it stuck; however, people in England eventually moved back to preferring the term “autumn.”
