People who love classical music would likely appreciate a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. However, if you are not a fan of this genre, you might find it a bit difficult to __1__ its long duration of up to 105 minutes.This symphony is one of the longest pieces of classical music ever composed, but there are others that are even longer and can put to the test any symphony lover’s endurance. In fact, when it comes to performance length, __2__ can compare to American composer John Cage’s As Slow as Possible.
As its title suggests, As Slow as Possible is a keyboard piece intended to be played very, very slowly. Written in the 1980s, it has been played in performances lasting __3__ 24 hours. In 2001, a group of artists in Germany began building a special organ that would perform an epic rendition of Cage’s work. The first note was played over two decades ago, and the music will continue for another 617 years if everything goes as planned. This means the entire performance will last an __4__ 639 years.
