In March, the Thai government announced that they would seek to get tom yum kung listed as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Tom yum kung is a traditional spicy Thai soup that is made with shrimp and features a number of local ingredients, including kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, and galangal. The deputy government spokesperson noted that the soup is connected to the country’s rural farming communities and represents local ties to nature. The government is also hoping to get Nora, a traditional dramatic dance, included on the heritage list. Meanwhile, Khon dance and Nuad Thai massage were added to UNESCO’s global cultural heritage list in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

On March 11, the Spanish government passed a law that legally classified food delivery drivers as employees of the companies they work for. The move means that individuals who work for delivery apps, like Uber Eats and Deliveroo, will be protected under workers’ rights and will be ensured a minimum wage. Prior to the new legislation , delivery drivers were considered self-employed. The law will also require companies to be transparent about their digital processes, including how algorithms assign jobs and evaluate worker performance. Spain’s Minister of Labour said that the law is part of “a modernization of the labor market” amid developing technologies and an increased reliance on digital platforms.
