in the night 與 at night 在中文皆表「在夜晚」，但兩者意思有細微的不同，以下分別說明:

1.    in the night

通常用來描述在夜晚的某個特定時刻發生了某事，等同於 during the night。

約翰晚上一直醒來。

2.    at night

at night 是更常見的用法，通常用來描述在晚上發生的事情，或者習慣性在晚上做的活動。

★ 補充用法
1. 介詞 in
可用於表年（in 2024）、月（in May）、上午／下午／晚上（in the morning / afternoon / evening）、季節（in spring / the spring）以及較長的一段時間（in the 19th century）。
2. 介詞 at
一般用來指幾點鐘（at nine o’clock）、確切的時間（at 9:30 a.m.）或某時刻（at dawn / noon / night），且不與定冠詞 the 並用。

　　沒有什麼比得上在溫暖的夜晚觀看螢火蟲照亮天空。數百隻螢火蟲在夜空中閃爍的景象可以留下如夢似幻的回憶。雖然螢火蟲發光的能力或許令人著迷，但它並不是魔法。
　　長期以來，人們一直想知道螢火蟲是如何照亮牠們的身體。不同於大多數類型的光，螢火蟲的光並不熱。它被稱作「冷」。科學家仔細研究了這些美麗的昆蟲，現在對牠們如何發光有了清楚的了解。螢火蟲會產生一種稱為螢光素酶的特殊酵素，牠們會將其與其他化學物質一起儲存在腹部內。當該酵素與氧氣結合時，它會產生綠色、橘色或黃色的光。
　　令人驚訝的是，螢火蟲可以控制這個化學反應，類似於打開或關閉手電筒。牠們使用身體上稱為微氣管的細管來收集氧氣。牠們藉由打開或關閉這些細管來控制閃光，這些細管會通往用來發光的器官。成年螢火蟲利用閃光來吸引配偶並互相交流。這些光也警告掠食者牠們不太好吃。
