There are several theories about why Neanderthals died out. For decades, the most popular theory was that humans developed more quickly than Neanderthals. Many scientists believed that as humans became smarter, they started several wars to wipe Neanderthals out. Perhaps they did so to gain more control over food and other resources. This makes sense, as they believe humans began arriving in Europe in large numbers 40,000 years ago.
Others believe that Neanderthals vanished due to natural reasons. As the number of Neanderthals was low and they were in danger of dying out, any sudden changes in their environment could have caused their extinction.
