A bag that is as heavy as a fan’s love
Fans of anime often collect pins, keychains, or little stuffed toys of their favorite characters. For many, it’s a waste to let their collections just take up space in their house. This thought is what inspired the idea of the “ita-bag.”
An ita-bag can be a backpack, a tote, a small purse, or a keychain pouch. Ita-bags are often decorated with a lot of small objects, usually from the same anime series or character. Many have a clear plastic window that lets people display their collections publicly. Since ita-bags can be arranged in any way the owner desires, no two ita-bags are the same. To the average person, these arrangements may look a little loud, but for fans, this is the perfect way to show off their love for characters or anime.
Ita-bags first appeared in Japan, but they have now spread to countries around the world. The term “ita” comes from the Japanese word itai, which means painful. It suggests the bags are painful to look at. Fans also joke that ita-bags are painful to carry because of the heavy weight of all the merchandise. Some say the real pain comes from how much money they spend on their collections. For ita-bag owners, though, the joy of showing what they love makes every penny worth it.
