Many have a clear plastic window that lets people display their collections publicly. Since ita-bags can be arrangedin any way the owner desires, no two ita-bags are the same. Ita-bags first appeared in Japan, but they have now spread to countries around the world. The term “ita” comes from the Japanese word itai, which means painful. It suggests the bags are painful to look at. Fans also joke that ita-bags are painful to carry because of the heavy weightof all the merchandise.
