A How was your trip to Russia? You look exhausted! B I’ve still not recovered from my final night. My friends hosted a farewell dinner party for me. On the table was a big bottle of vodka. A I thought you like vodka. B I do. But it’s tradition there to toasteveryone and everything until the bottle is empty! I don’t think I’ll ever drink vodka again! A Oh, dear. Couldn’t you have turned it down? B Well, I didn’t want to be rude. In Russian culture, toasting is very important. And, you know, when in Rome, do as the Romans do! A I think those“ Romans” might have had a bit more practice at downing vodka than you! How many shots did you drink? B After the ninth or tenth, I lost count. A Ha-ha. Was there food at this dinner party, or just vodka? B On the menu were beef stroganoff, meatballs, pickledcabbage, and loads of bread. A Just not enough to soak up that vodka!
