 A  Wow! How’s the weather over there?
 B  Terrible. It’s raining cats and dogs.

 A  喂？
 B  凱西，妳好。我是馬克。我現在人在倫敦！
 A  哇！那邊天氣如何？
 B  糟透了。正在下傾盆大雨。

 

單字片語 Vocabulary and Phrases

 1  London n. 倫敦（城市名）

 2  weather n. 天氣（不可數）

 3  terrible a. 很糟的，很差的；可怕的
You look terrible!
你臉色看起來很糟！

 4  rain vi. 下雨 & n. 雨（不可數）
be raining cats and dogs　　下傾盆大雨
= be raining hard
= be pouring
It is raining cats and dogs in Tokyo.
= It is raining hard in Tokyo.
= It is pouring in Tokyo.
東京正在下傾盆大雨。
The rain will stop soon.
雨很快就會停了。

口語技能 Speaking Skills

 1   I’m in London right now!　　我現在人在倫敦！ 

 a  本句中，right now 等同於 now，均可翻譯為「現在」。right now 中的 right 為副詞，有強調的功能，即「就在現在」的意思。

 A  Where’s Mary?
 B  She’s at the library (right) now.
 A  瑪麗在哪裡？
 B  她現在在圖書館。

然而，由於現在式本身已表示「現在」，故句尾的 now 或 right now 可予以省略。即：
She’s at the library (right) now.
= She’s at the library.

 b  根據上述，課文中的句子亦可將句尾的 right now 省略。即：

I’m in London right now!
= I’m in London now!
= I’m in London!

 

 2   詢問天氣如何 

表示「天氣如何？」有下列兩種說法：
How’s (= How is) the weather?
What’s (= What is) the weather like?
