Scientists Achieve Breakthrough by Finding Water on an Exoplanet

With the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers have made a groundbreaking discovery: the presence of water on GJ 9827d, a distant exoplanet situated far beyond our solar system. This finding is particularly significant because GJ 9827d is the smallest exoplanet ever discovered to have water in its atmosphere. However, the extreme temperatures make it impossible for any life form to live on this planet.

　　This discovery excites scientists, who are eager to learn more about GJ 9827d’s atmosphere. Scientists were able to use starlight to detect water molecules in the planet’s atmosphere; however, they are still unable to observe the atmosphere of such a small planet directly. They hope further study of this distant exoplanet will help them understand if there are more planets similar to Earth out there in space.
