A personality test that may be familiar to people is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Though many have heard of the MBTI and may even know their respective “type,” few know the story behind this 100-plus-year-old theory.
The MBTI was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. Briggs began researching personality types in the 1910s and developed a typology based on four dispositions. She later expanded her work based on theories by psychoanalyst Carl Jung, especially those detailed in his 1921 book Psychological Types.
