52 Million Europeans at Risk from Aircraft Emissions
A report from the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) highlights the significant health risks posed by air pollution from aircraft take-offs and landings. According to the report, 52 million Europeans, especially those living near major airports, are exposed to dangerous pollutants such as ultrafine particles. These particles are about 1,000 times smaller than a human hair, allowing them to easily penetrate human tissue. Despite growing evidence of their harm, ultrafine particles remain largely unregulated.
T&E is urging European governments to enforce stricter regulations on aircraft emissions and accelerate the adoption of cleaner technologies. The organization also recommends expanding low-emission zones around airports to better protect public health. Without decisive action, millions of Europeans will continue to face these serious health threats.
