? The Rainy Port ?
Nicknamed the Rainy Port, Keelung is known for its humid and rainy winters. The city experiences one of the highest annual rainfall levels in Taiwan. The interaction between the northeast monsoon and the city’s mountainous terrain brings steady drizzle and misty weather from December through February. In the shift from winter to spring, the city is often blanketed with heavy fog, which sometimes disrupts port operations. However, since the 1990s, climate change has noticeably reduced Keelung’s annual rainfall, with occasional droughts in recent years.
