Amystifying pattern of radio waves appearing to originate from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy sounds like the stuff of science fiction . The idea certainly fits right in with sci-fi novels, films, and television series, and in fact, it has been employed as a plot concept for TV shows and movies such as Star Trek. But this __1__ phenomenon, which is being called ASKAP J173608.2- 321635, is very much a real-life cosmic mystery. Even the world’s top astronomers don’t have a __2__ what’s causing it to happen.
A team of scientists from around the planet made the intriguing discovery with __3__ from the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). It is one of the most sensitive radio telescopes ever built; that is, it can record __4__ radiation from the Milky Way. Situated in Western Australia, ASKAP is owned by the Australian government’s research agency. The astronomers are truly astounded and __5__ by the behavior of the radio waves. That’s because they do not act in any way similar to other known phenomena in __6__ space. As Ziteng Wang, the expert who leads the team of astronomers, explained, the movement and direction of the radio waves twist and rotate over time. Moreover, the __7__ varies enormously, with observers stating that the signals seem to disappear and then reappear at random.
