Seagulls are one of the most widely dispersed types of birds on the planet. They can be found along the shores of every continent, even some places in Antarctica. Seagulls can drink seawater and fresh water, which means they have a lot of options for suitable habitats. Most seagulls are white or gray with black markings on their wings, but there is a lot of variation among the more than 50 species worldwide.
In many places, seagulls are considered a nuisance. That’s because they live in large, noisy groups called colonies that can easily ruin a peaceful day at the beach. Seagulls are very adaptable when it comes to their diet, meaning they will eat almost anything. Tourists in coastal areas that don’t keep an eye on their food may lose their meals to hungry seagulls.
