 England Mourns the Death of Prince Philip 
英國為菲利浦親王辭世哀悼

Prince Philip was the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II. He passed away on April 9, 2021. He was 99 years old, just two months away from his 100th birthday. According to the royal family, Philip died peacefully with family members by his side. His funeral was held on April 17.

 　　Philip was born on the Greek island Corfu on June 10, 1921. His mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg and his father was Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. When he was little, Philip was forced to escape to England with his family due to political disorder. In 1947, he married then Crown Princess Elizabeth. Philip was the longest living consort of a monarch in the history of England. He was also the longest-living male member in the history of the royal family.

 　　Philip was known for supporting many charities. He served the British people as the Queen’s consort for 69 years. He was active even in his later years, and did not retire from public duties until he was 96 years old.

 

Director Ang Lee Awarded BAFTA Fellowship 
李安獲頒英國影藝學院終身成就獎

Ang Lee received a fellowship award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) at the annual BAFTA awards ceremony on April 11, 2021. The fellowship represents the appreciation of a person’s achievements throughout his or her life in the filmmaking industry. Lee, who is from Taiwan, has made a name for himself with unique and beautiful films throughout the years.

 　　Lee first gained international attention in the 1990s with his trilogy of Chinese-language films. These three films are now referred to as the “Father Knows Best” trilogy. Since then, Lee has created many award-winning movies, such as Sense and Sensibility and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon .

 　　When he learned that he would receive the BAFTA Fellowship, Lee called it a “tremendous honor.” At one point in Lee’s life, he almost gave up filmmaking entirely. According to Lee, his wife was the one who encouraged him to keep following his dreams, even when he felt like giving up. Now, Lee is one of the most well-known and respected filmmakers in the world.
