The naught raccoon dogs of Japan folklore
Japanese folklore is full of supernatural creatures. Many of these are similar to animals found in Japan, such as foxes, snakes, or spiders. While some creatures are considered dangerous to humans, others are seen as symbols of good luck.
One of the most curious creatures is the tanuki , or the Japanese raccoon dog. In nature, tanuki are small brown animals that are easily recognized for the dark circles around their eyes. Although they look similar to the North American raccoon, tanuki are actually more closely related to wolves and foxes.
