In colder parts of the world, the beginning of spring is a beautiful sight. The winter chillstarts to leave, and plants start to bloom. Spring is the perfect time to visit flower gardens like Keukenhof, which is located in the Netherlands. In the 15th century, the area was used to supplyfood for a castle. People planted fruits and vegetables and hunted for meat. For this reason, it was known as keukentuin, or “kitchen garden,” in Dutch.
As time went on, different people owned the land and made changes to it. In 1641, a large manor house was built and named Keukenhof. Today, this house is known as Keukenhof Castle. More than 200 years later, the garden area was redesigned in an English style. This garden design from the 19th century is still the main layout of Keukenhof today.
