First Pregnant Mummy Discovered
全球首見懷孕木乃伊
A team of scientists in Poland have made an amazing discovery: the first known example of a mummified pregnant woman. In late April, scientists at the Warsaw Mummy Project announced their findings. There is still some mystery that surrounds the identity of the woman. However, it is estimated that she died in Egypt sometime during the first century BCE.
She was probably between 20 and 30 years old at the time of her death, according to the experts. Scientists used X-ray technology to see images of the baby inside the woman’s body. Based on the child’s size, scientists estimate the woman was between 26 and 30 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
The woman’s identity remains a mystery because her body was placed into the wrong coffin sometime in the late 19th or early 20th century. For this reason, she has been nicknamed the Mysterious Lady of the National Museum in Warsaw.
