Sweden is a global coffee capital. According to recent statistics, Swedish people drink about three cups of coffee each day on average. The quantity is not the only thing that’s remarkable. Sweden’s coffee culture has fika , which is a routine that combines high-quality coffee with enjoyment.
In the Swedish language, the word for coffee is kaffi . It is believed that the word fika was created by changing the two syllables of the word, so “ka-fi” became “fi-ka.” The word can be used as a noun or a verb. Fika is the daily practice of enjoying a drink and having a snack with a friend or some coworkers. Employees in Sweden are allowed a certain amount of time every day for fika . Also, good friends often meet to catch up with each other and fika together.
In addition to coffee, most people will use their fika time to enjoy a baked treat, like a piece of cake or a cinnamon bun. Many people bring their own baked foods from home to share with their coworkers. Fika is an important time to relax your mind and connect with other people.
