We all have the power to change our lives any time we choose. The only thing stopping us is our own fear and unwillingness to do so. The Courage to Be Disliked is a book that gives readers the strength and motivation to take action. It has helped people accept the process of change so that they can find true happiness.
The book was written by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga. It is structured as a series of conversations between a wise philosopher and his student. The student is frustrated about the direction in which his life is going. So, he asks the philosopher questions like “What’s my life’s purpose?” and “How does my past affect me?” Many of the answers the student receives are helpful but make him feel uncomfortable.
The philosopher explains that unhappiness is something that people choose for themselves. Being unhappy is often a way to avoid challenges, and the avoidance protects people from pain and rejection. However, this road will never lead to happiness. In order to be happy, you have to go after your dreams, stop worrying what others think, and as Ichiro Kishimi proposes, have the courage to be disliked.
