　　St. Patrick’s Day is a famous Irish holiday. It’s a day to pay tribute to Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Patrick was born in Britain around the year 390 CE. At age 16, he was kidnapped and taken to Ireland to work as a slave. During this time, Patrick had a religious experience and found God.

 　　When he fled, Patrick became a priest and traveled throughout Britain and Ireland. He converted many Irish people to Christianity during his life. After his death, the legend of his good deeds continued to grow. People started celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, the day of his death.

　　In addition to honoring Saint Patrick, the holiday turned into an occasion to celebrate Irish culture. People often wear green clothing on St. Patrick’s Day, as the color is associated with Ireland. Some attach a shamrock, a small three-leaf flower, to their shirts. These flowers represent springtime and also symbolize Irish pride. Another symbol of St. Patrick’s Day is the leprechaun. These tiny little men from Irish folktales play practical jokes on people and are said to hide gold beneath rainbows.

★     8.     play practical jokes on sb　　對某人惡作劇（practical joke 意思為「惡作劇」）
Holly likes to play practical jokes on people, which is pretty annoying sometimes.
荷莉喜歡對人惡作劇，有時候很煩人。

in addition to... 的用法

1.     in addition to 是片語介詞，後面接名詞或動名詞形成介詞片語，表「除了……之外（還有……）」，用於後面所接的人事物「包含」在內時。
★ 相同用法還有 besides。
例子: In addition to the six cats she owns, Susan also has two dogs.
蘇珊除了養六隻貓以外，還養了兩隻狗。

例子: In addition to reading novels, Jerry loves going to the movies.
除了看小說之外，傑瑞還喜歡去看電影。

2.     in addition 也可以作副詞片語單獨使用，表「除此之外，而且」，使用時後面加逗點，再接主要子句。
例子: Evan is a professional athlete. In addition, he has two bachelor’s degrees.
伊凡是一名職業運動員。此外，他還有兩個學士學位。
