When you take a relaxing tour of the lake, there are many sights to see. One of the most popular stops is St. Bartholomew’s Church. It was built in the year 1134 and later rebuilt in 1697 in a baroque style. People can only get to the church by boat or by taking a long hike across the mountains. As it is not easy to arrive at, the church, once a hunting house for Bavarian kings, has become an important pilgrimage place for the faithful.
For hikers, the holy grail of Lake Königssee is the Obersee, which means “Upper Lake” in German. It is a small lake located just southeast of Lake Königssee that can be reached on foot. From there, travelers follow the path to a field that was used to let farm animals wander around and eat. There is also a restaurant where visitors can snack on local cheeses and drinks.
