When it comes to selling souvenirs, there are no secrets. Like any other business, each seller must understand their customers. The Calgary Zoo in Canada, for instance, sorts souvenirs based on which animal is shown. Gift shops that sell toys realized they needed to display them lower––within reach of children. Even though children aren’t paying, they are still the ones picking out the souvenirs.
A museum focused on the American author Ernest Hemingway does something different. Of course, the museum’s gift shop sells books, but there’s something else, too. Hemingway wasn’t a dog person; he owned cats. For this reason, the Hemingway Home and Museum has a lot of cat-related souvenirs.
