A closer look at clouds and what they mean
On most afternoons, if you look up, you can see fluffy, white clouds floating in the sky. They seem to form slowly out of thin air and add a beautiful, magical quality to clear blue skies. Yet after a few minutes, they may fade away _(1)_.
Although clouds appear and disappear just like magic, scientists can explain how it happens. The process usually begins in the late morning, when the Sun _(2)_ the Earth’s surface. As the ground temperature increases, bubbles of warm air form and start to rise up into the sky. These air bubbles keep _(3)_ higher and higher like hot-air balloons. Finally, they are cooled down by cold air as they reach great heights. When the air bubbles get cooler, they can no longer hold all the moisture they contain. The _(4)_ moisture inside the bubbles turns into tiny drops of water. These drops of water then gather together to form clouds.

By noon, the clouds will grow and spread across the sky. Later in the afternoon, however, many clouds will release the water in the form of rain and disappear from the sky.
