take (sth) with a grain of salt 並不是真的要拿起一把鹽啦！

這個片語的起源，有一說是來自古羅馬的作家老普林尼，他在翻譯某毒藥的解藥時，提及了使用些許的鹽（grain of salt），而後引申為不要完全相信/接受，對某事｢半信半疑」的意思。
take (sth) with a grain of salt （對某事）半信半疑，採保留的態度
例：The fortune teller predicted that Covid-19 will come to an end in June, but I took that with a grain of salt.
（這名算命師預言新冠肺炎會在今年六月結束，但我對那個說法採保留態度。）例：The flatterer’s words should always be taken with a grain of salt.
（諂媚者的話不應該太信以為真。）A: John just told me he got admitted to Harvard.
B: You should take everything he says with a grain of salt. He sometimes tells lies.(A: 約翰剛告訴我他獲准到哈佛大學唸書了。)
(B: 你應該對他的話有所保留。他有時候會說謊。)
關於「鹽巴」，出自聖經典故的一句話
You’re salt of the earth. 這邊的 Salt 是為 elite of the world (世上的菁英)，「#鹽」在過去是非常珍貴的東西，the salt of the earth 就有引申為社會中善良優秀的人。
the salt of the earth 正派的人，誠實善良的人（此用法源自聖經）
例：I’d say Kelly is the salt of the earth. She’s always willing to help people in need.
（我認為凱莉很正直、善良。她總是樂於幫助窮困的人。)
當受傷時，已經很痛了，如果在傷口上撒鹽……那更是痛上加痛！因此我們會用「在傷口上撒鹽」來比喻加重傷害、雪上加霜的事，而在英文中也有一模一樣的用法：
to rub salt in / into the wound 在傷口上撒鹽，雪上加霜
= to add insult to injury例：Gina was badly hurt in a car accident, and to rub salt in the wound, her boyfriend dumped her.
= Gina was badly hurt in a car accident, and to add insult to injury, her boyfriend dumped her.
吉娜在一起車禍中受重傷，然後更雪上加霜的是，她被男友甩了。A: What you said to Sue was like rubbing salt into her wounds.
B: I didn't know her grandfather had just died. I'll go and tell her that I'm sorry.
(A: 你對蘇說的話就像是在她的傷口撒鹽。)
(B: 我不知道她爺爺剛過世。我會去告訴她我很抱歉。)
