There is a growing trend in modern parenting today. It’s called helicopter parenting. What is it, you ask? Basically, it means parents who are too focused on their kids. They get involved in every little detail of their children’s lives. In other words, they are always hanging over their kids, like a helicopter. Some might see this as a good thing, but it can have some very bad effects.
Many helicopter parents mean well. But what they are doing is hurting their kids more than helping. For one thing, helicopter parenting stops kids from learning for themselves. One thing that teaches children more than anything else is making mistakes. Helicopter parents tend to do most things for their kids. As a result, the kids don’t get a chance to make mistakes and then have little to learn from.
Another thing helicopter parents rob their children of is the ability to motivate themselves. They get so used to their parents’ doing everything for them that they rarely want to do anything on their own. So, later in life, they might not be able to lead the full, independent lives most adults are supposed to live.
