Donuts Anger Commuters
Traffic in the CBD was in gridlock yesterday because of the Donut Delight superstore opening. A company spokesperson explained that more than 5,000 customers purchased around 50,000 donuts in the first 12 hours of trade, primarily purchasing the opening day special—a dozen donuts for 10 cents. Hundreds of cars lined up along Main Street as they attempted to enter the store’s express drive-thru. When peak hour arrived, additional police were dispatched to control clogged intersections and keep an eye on the crowd. Nina Colombo from the Transport Department urged commuters to relax and take it easy. She went on to say, “We don’t want any casualties for the sake of a dozen cheap donuts.”
