This summer, the exhibition “The Magic of Volume: Botero Exhibition” makes its grand debut in Taiwan, bringing together over 100 paintings and sculptures by legendary Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Renowned for his unique “XXXXXL expansion aesthetics,” Botero brings his signature rounded style to a wide range of subjects, including still lifes, circus performers, religious figures, and reinterpretations of classical art.
Botero’s work is not merely visually striking and engaging; it challenges conventional standards of slender beauty in its form. His voluminous and rounded figures often hide a layer of humorous irony. For instance, his depictions of clergy members use exaggerated volumes to subtly satirize religious authority, while his circus series combines lively joy with a hint of melancholy felt by ordinary people. Through his delicate exploration of color and composition, Botero creates a world of art that is both comforting and thought-provoking, proving that beauty truly comes in all shapes and sizes.
Recalling all the problems he had faced recently, Paul
felt melancholy so deep and strong.
After feeling melancholy all day, Ted decided to take
himself out to a movie and a nice dinner.
