The European Space Agency has recently proposed setting up a new time zone for the Moon. As dozens of lunarmissions organized by different countries are scheduledover the next decade, the agency believes creating a standard time for the Moon will facilitatecommunication. This time zone could help astronauts with navigationas well.
Under the current system, each lunar missionuses the time zone of the country managing it. However, this is an imprecisemethod that can create confusion when spacecraftoperated from different locations arenotin sync. Experts have yet todecide precisely how the new lunarclock would work.
