In archaeology, some stones are considered valuable due to their cultural or historical significance . The Rosetta Stone, an ancient slab of rock inscribed with passages written in three languages, is a great example. From the bottom to the top of the stone are ancient Greek, Egyptian demotic, and Egyptian hieroglyphics. Demotic is a written script used for everyday purposes, while hieroglyphics are symbols that were mainly used by priests to document important religious and historical events.
The Rosetta Stone dates back to 196 BC. It contains three versions of the same text, which is a royal decree ordered by a council of priests for Ptolemy V, who had recently become pharaoh of Egypt at the tender age of 13. Simply put, the text states that the priests of Egypt supported the pharaoh and declared him to be a devout and generous ruler.
