Almost everyone in Taiwan knows that Father’s Day is celebrated in August. However, it might surprise many to learn that this is not the case for most of the world. In fact, a majority of countries celebrate fathers and fatherly figures in June. What’s more, the very first Father’s Day was celebrated in neither June nor August.
The first Father’s Day in the US was essentially a memorial for a small town in West Virginia. An explosion at a local mine killed more than 360 men, and more than 200 of the victims were fathers. To honor these men, Grace Golden Clayton held a Father’s Day celebration on July 5, 1908.
