Penguins, the cute and fluffy birds living in large groups in Antarctica, often display behaviors that seem surprisingly similar to human interactions. Take gentoo penguins for example. Known for their social nature, these penguins not only form lifelong bonds but also exchange gifts as part of their courtship. During mating season, a male penguin will often present a female with a smooth pebble as a token of affection. If she accepts the gift, the pair will use it to build a nest together. Scientists call this charming behavior “pebbling,” which is one of the many reasons why penguins capture our hearts.
