 　 Over the course of its lives, the dog searches not only for an identity but also for a purpose in life. In each story, it fulfills a certain purpose. The connection between the dog and humans becomes stronger time after time. The way the author describes the search for meaning in life from the dog’s point of view is clever4. The dog is given emotions and personality just like a human, which helps people relate to the dog’s experiences. It is also interesting that in Cameron’s stories he treats dogs the same as he treats his other characters. They learn and grow over time, just like human characters typically do in novels.

      W. Bruce Cameron has had a long career as an author, columnist, and humorist. He has also written other works about dogs, including A Dog ’s Journey and A Dog ’s Way Home .
