Why should we sleep? Isn’t sleep just time being wasted? Actually, no. Sleeping is one of the best ways to use our time up to a point. Most adults need seven to eight hours of quality sleep per day. Teenagers need closer to 10 hours. The younger we are, the more we need. Babies often need as many as 16 hours of sleep each day.
In order to understand why we need sleep, we must first examine what happens to us when we are not well rested. People who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, become unhappy, and make dangerous mistakes. Sleepy drivers are among the leading causes of car crashes. Beyond this, poor sleeping habits can hurt every part of our body, from our brain to our heart.
What do you get from sleeping well? You’ll stay healthier, thinner, and happier. You will also be able to work more effectively, no matter what you do. Whether it’s playing a sport, taking a test, or working a job, a good night’s sleep will make you better at it. So, spend some time on yourself. Treat yourself to a good night’s sleep, every night.
