We’ve all been there. Tired after a long day, we tell ourselves that we will go to sleep by 10:00 p.m. “If I get to bed at 10, I’ll be asleep by 11,” you find yourself thinking. The result? You go to bed at one in the morning, just like every other night. Why do we keep letting ourselves down?
There are a number of reasons for why we end up staying awake. We might think of something and worry we will forget it unless we do it “right now.” Or we might be feeling stress due to a deadline that is fast approaching. Sometimes, we just need some “me time” to relax and have fun after a long day at work. Often, staying up late is the result of our own personality quirks.
If you are not a very organized person during the day, it’s more likely you’ll have difficulty going to sleep earlier. On the other hand, some people can be too serious. Once we start doing something, like playing a video game, we may not want to stop. Either way, there are solutions. Stop using your phone, television, or computer earlier. Avoid doing important work late at night. Try these suggestions, and you should be able to get to sleep at an earlier hour.
