Children’s book author Lisa Thompson was born in Essex, England, in May of 1973. When she was young, she wasn’t thinking about becoming a writer. What she wanted more than anything was horse-riding lessons. However, her parents couldn’t afford them. So, instead, she wrote a short story about a little girl who starts a rescue home for horses. She even drew illustrations of the story by herself. This way, she could be around and play with horses in the world of her imagination.
As an adult, Lisa would go on to work behind the scenes on radio programs for the BBC, a broadcasting organization in the UK. After a decade of working at the BBC, she became a freelance radio broadcast assistant. It wasn’t until 2017, at the age of 43, that she published her first children’s novel, The Goldfish Boy . The book became a national bestseller and was even nominated for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
