What would you do if you had to have your leg amputated? Many people would try to live a comfortable life with as little movement as possible. However, that is not the case for Jacky Hunt-Broersma. The amputee has recently completed 104 marathons in just as many days—an achievement she expects to be certified by Guinness World Records.
Hunt-Broersma wasn’t always passionate about running. In fact, she used to think that people who ran marathons were crazy. Her opinions began to shift after she was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and needed to have her left leg amputated to save her life. The first few years after her recovery were a struggle. Though her prosthetic leg enabled her to walk, she found life with it embarrassing and difficult. Then, in 2016, she took up running on a whim.
