Foreigners studying Chinese are usually delighted upon learning that both the days of the week and the months of the year are given names according to their order. That is, the first day of the week in Chinese is called “weekday one,” the first month of the Chinese calendar is “first month,” __1__. Memorizing the English names for the days of the week and months is not all that easy, especially when it comes to spelling them.
